Earlier experiment behind the tumour promotion finding

The reported finding

ENU+RF lung carcinoma 45/58 vs 33/60 ENU-only (p<.05); multiple lung carcinoma 39/58 vs 18/60 (p<.001), two-tailed Fisher. Lung adenoma/carcinoma combined 50/58 vs 42/60 (p<.05). ENU-group survival comparable.

Reading it carefully

Pilot: one sex/one ENU+RF intensity, limited protocol organs. Retrospective Helicobacter evidence led authors to exclude liver findings from interpretation. Metastases 15/58 vs 7/60 were not marked significant. Body-temperature checks were prestudy, not throughout pregnant/pup exposure.

Inside the study

Exposure conditions
1966 MHz generic UMTS; 4.8 W/m² plus maternal ENU 40 mg/kg on gestational day 14; RF from gestational day 6, 20 h/day, 7 days/week. Separate 48 W/m² RF-only group. Whole-body SAR varies with size/posture/cage; a single 0.4 W/kg value requires qualification.
Design & controls
Female B6C3F1 offspring: 60 ENU, 60 ENU+RF, 60 cage controls, 54 sham, 57 RF-only. ENU groups terminated at week 75 after mortality exceeded 75%; other groups continued up to 24 months.
Related research & shared cohorts
Fraunhofer ITEM/Hannover-Wuppertal experiment behind RF-003; the 2008 Reproductive Toxicology abstract (10.1016/j.reprotox.2008.05.039) appears to be precursor reporting, not another study.
The protection question raised
Does the lung-tumour increase reflect a reproducible interaction with chemical initiation? The infection-limited liver interpretation cannot supply equivalent support. This is a combined-exposure question, not evidence of RF-alone tumour causation.
