Title: Low Intensity Electromagnetic Fields Act via Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel (VGCC) Activation to Cause Very Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease: 18 Distinct Types of Evidence

Authors: Martin L Pall

Author: Pall

Date: 2022-03-11

Kind: Proposed mechanism

Why: Calcium regulation is important in the biology of Alzheimer’s disease. Pall brings that research together with EMF findings to propose a pathway linking exposure, cellular stress and neurodegeneration.

Scope: A mechanistic mini-review relating calcium-dependent processes in Alzheimer’s disease to laboratory and epidemiological EMF literature.

Summary: Pall organises 18 lines of argument around calcium-channel activation, oxidative/nitrosative stress, inflammation and amyloid-related processes. He proposes that pulsed exposures could contribute to earlier neurodegeneration.

Limitations: The synthesis does not establish that everyday wireless use causes Alzheimer’s disease or predict an age of onset. Animal neurodegeneration, human diagnoses and exposure regimes are distinct; the paper itself calls for better epidemiology and biomarker studies.

Topics: Calcium signalling; Neurodegeneration; Oxidative stress

Exposures: Radiofrequency; ELF magnetic fields; Modulated wireless signals
