# CTX-003 — No Increased DNA Damage Observed in the Brain, Liver, and Lung of Fetal Mice Treated With Ethylnitrosourea and Exposed to UMTS Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields

Why this matters
Researchers tested whether RF increased an early form of chemical damage to fetal DNA after a cancer-causing chemical. They did not find the proposed increase. That result limits one explanation of the tumour-promotion findings; it does not repeat the lifetime cancer experiments or settle every possible mechanism.

Exposure: Approximately 1960 MHz UMTS from gestational day 7, sham/0.04/0.4 W/kg; ENU 40 mg/kg on day 14; fetal brain/liver/lung examined 24, 36 and 72 hours later. Primary abstract gives 24-57 fetuses per subgroup.

Design: ENU-treated pregnancies with sham or UMTS exposure; fetal brain, liver and lung assessed at 24, 36 and 72 hours after ENU. Primary abstract gives 24-57 fetuses per subgroup; fetal counts do not establish independent dam counts.

Finding: Fetal follow-up at 0.04/0.4 W/kg did not increase adenyl-DNA-adduct signal after ENU at 24/36/72 hours. Does not retest lifetime tumours or rule out every genotoxic mechanism.

Boundary: Keep mechanism unresolved; do not present early ENU-adduct potentiation as established.

Related: 2018 BfS-RESFOR-130/18, urn:nbn:de:0221-2018011014465, reports the same mechanistic project; count once.

Protection Question: What mechanism could account for the lifetime promotion findings? This result leaves early fetal DNA-adduct potentiation unsupported, without retesting tumours or excluding every possible interaction pathway.
